A Field Guide to Rajasthan’s Festival Calendar
Pushkar, Desert Festival, Teej and Gangaur — timing a Rajasthan trip around one festival changes the entire journey.

Rajasthan is worth visiting at any point in the cool season, but arriving during a festival is a different experience entirely — the forts stay the same and the streets do not.
The four worth planning around
- Pushkar Camel Fair (November): 50,000 animals and the largest livestock fair in Asia. Book accommodation six months out
- Jaisalmer Desert Festival (February): folk music, turban-tying contests and camel polo on the Sam dunes
- Gangaur (March/April): eighteen days of processions in Jaipur and Udaipur, at its best on the lake
- Teej (August): monsoon festival, green and gold everywhere, far fewer foreign visitors
One caution: festival weeks compress hotel availability and inflate rates across the whole state, not just the host city. Decide early, book early, and treat the crowd as part of what you came for.
